Decision
Counseling Ministry
by Scott
McConnell
Have you ever wondered
why so many individuals gather every Sunday by the baptismal at
the invitation time? Although many of you may know why, there
are others who may not. These are your OCC decision counselors.
The decision counseling ministry was developed five years ago
when elders and staff agreed that a more personal approach was
needed in the decision making process. Decision counselors will
speak with individuals regarding baptism, transfer of membership,
and requests for prayer. The ministry consists of 35-40 dedicated
counselors who have shown spiritual maturity as well as a heart
to share their faith with others. They also undergo a formal training
process which includes mentoring and apprenticeship.
In return for their service, counselors get to experience the
joy of being a part of the most important decision a person can
make when they decide to follow Christ. Witnessing this transformation
is truly one of the most exciting things a counselor will experience.
You may ask, how can I support the Decision Counseling Ministry?
There are several easy ways. First, when the invitation time begins,
pray for those who may be contemplating a decision for Christ
or commitment to OCC. They may be right beside you. Second, always
pray for your decision counselors. Pray that God gives them the
right words or scriptures necessary to minister to each decision
maker. Third, make an effort to reach out to all new members to
encourage them in their new walk. God will honor your efforts!
