Estate
Planning Seminar
by John
Teensma
“Leaving a Christian
Legacy: A Christian Guide to Estate Planning” is a seminar
that was recently presented by Elaine Duncan, who is the Business
Administrator at OCC. She is also an Attorney at Law.
Elaine reminded us that the Bible indicates that all the assets
that we may accumulate really belong to God and we are the stewards.
As His stewards, we are reponsible for an orderly transfer of
those assets to those who will continue to act as God’s
stewards.
To this end, Elaine took us through four steps designed to accomplish
an orderly transfer of assets:
1. Set the priorities
of your estate
2. Become acquainted with the estate planning documents available
to you.
3. Collect the data, which will be required to complete the
estate planning process
4. Seek competent assistance in planning your estate.

After
discussing these four steps in detail, there was a question
and answer period. Many questions were brought up, including:
“Is it legal
to write your own will?”
“What about trusts? Do they have a place in my planning?”
“Do I need a will if all my assets are held in joint
accounts?”

At the end of the seminar,
all attendees received handouts designed to assist them in the
process of estate planning.
If for some reason you did not attend this seminar, it will be
presented again at a future date. Check the church website, www.okolonacc.org,
or the Sunday bulletins for future programs of this sort.
