"Growing
in Christ Together" Study
by
John Parkey
If there's one thing that
becomes more clear to me everyday, it's the fact that I can't
do life alone. I need other Christ-followers to support me on
my journey, and part of my maturity also requires that I find
others to support on their journeys. Because of this, one of the
things we value at Okolona Christian Church is connecting people
with like interests or life circumstances who might become that
support for one another. One way we strive to connect one another
is through small groups.
Up until this point, we've
offered small groups that meet once a month to fellowship and
to support one another on their spiritual journey. These groups
also discuss the sermons preached on Wednesday night. Greenhouse
Groups really are an amazing opportunity to connect.
Beginning this month, at
the same time we offer Greenhouse Groups, we will now offer a
new alternative small group setting that may meet your need to
connect to others here at OCC if you haven't been able to commit
to a Greenhouse Group. We're calling these groups “Growing in
Christ” groups based on the DVD study that will take place in
each of these small groups. There are two main differences that
“Growing in Christ” groups offer that Greenhouse Groups don't:
- First, they meet every week for 6 weeks rather than once a
month for 9 months. It definitely is a shorter time of commitment
and offers more frequency in getting together with people you
hopefully will begin to love and relate to.
- Secondly, these groups will study through a series that is
independent from any other program here at church. That means,
if you can't attend the Wednesday night program for whatever
reason, you still don't miss out on the topic for discussion
in your small group that particular week.
I hope as you consider
the value of having support from other Christ-followers on your
spiritual journey, you'll give some thought to participating in
a “Growing In Christ” group. There are a variety of interest groups
from which to choose: Men Only and Women Only groups, a Divorced
and Recovering group, groups for Married Couples, and a group
for those men in Public Service such as law enforcement/EMS/Firemen.
There's even a group for New Christians or New Members.
If you are interested in
joining a group, make sure you swing by the table out in the Lobby,
choose a group and sign up. I don't think you'll regret it.
Today is the deadline to sign-up, so don't delay too long.
