“After this I looked and
there before me was a great multitude that no one could count,
from every nation, tribe, people and language….”
Revelation 7:9 NIV
On Friday, June 3, 2006, the Encouraging Sisters in Christ ABF
(better known as the Women’s ABF) got a small taste of the
meeting that John was writing about in Revelation, when they hosted
InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. InterVarsity ministers to international
students at the University of Louisville. The students meet each
Friday evening for dinner and Bible study, and the Encouraging
Sisters (ESIC) provide a meal for the students once every other
month. This was the second time that ESIC has hosted the students
here on our campus.
There were nine countries, including the U.S., represented, and
it was exciting to hear about their different customs. In an effort
to get to know each other better, we discussed body language in
the various cultures. We quickly learned that an innocent motion
to one may be quite offensive to another, so it is best to study
a culture and get to know the customs before visiting them.
Following the meal, the students participated in their Bible study
and then joined the Encouraging Sisters for various games in the
Loft. It was a relaxing evening of food and fellowship with brothers
and sisters in Christ. For more information about InterVarsity
or details on how you can participate in their ministry, contact
