Single's Ministry
by Lonnie Meredith
Our group organized
in August of last year in an effort to unite singles between
the ages of 40 and 60. There are some who are younger than 40
an d
some who are older than 60. Our purpose is to provide love and
compassion, care and support to one another. It is our desire
to encourage one another and to grow spiritually. We do that
by meeting once a month as a small group in the church library
for spiritual growth, and meeting together twice a month for
fellowship.
Some of the fellowship events we’ve had in the past include
going bowling, meeting in restaurants, taking a trip to the
Louisville Zoo for a concert, potluck dinners accompanied with
playing our favorite board games, and going to the movies.
There are over 70 individuals worshipping at OCC who are single
and in this age group. Many are not active in a small group
like ours, some are active in other small groups. If you are
not active in any small group but might like to fellowship and
grow with us, we want to invite you to join us. Being connected
with a small group is how we grow and learn to care for one
another.
Recently, we met at Nancy Vogt’s home (one of our small
group members) for a potluck dinner and then played dominoes.
Although for some of us, this was the first time we had played
this game, it was great fun as we really learned what it is
like to be a Christian. Some of our strategies were spoiled
by others. Some of us even delighted in spoiling the strategies
of others. Some of us were muttering things under our breath
that probably did not need to be said out loud.
If you are interested in joining our group, be sure to stop
by the Information Desk and pick up a schedule of activities,
and then join us at our next group meeting and fellowship time.
We would love to have you join us for a great time of fellowship
and spiritual growth!
