Missionary
Convention
by Elaine Duncan
“…before me was a great
multitude…. from every nation, tribe, people and language,…”
(Revelation 7: 9 NIV).
The National Missionary
Convention brought together over 8,000 Christians of all ages
and from all parts of the world. There's nothing like praising
God with Christian brothers and sisters from various nations,
tribes, people and languages!
But that was only one small
part of the convention. There were over 600 exhibits representing
various missions and ministries and more than 250 workshops covering
a wide range of mission topics. The best part was hearing from
the various missionaries. We were treated to a concert of praise
in Portuguese, Japanese, Russian and other languages. Arthur,
a 10-year-old missionary kid, asked for prayer for the people
of India. C. Y. Kim told of the work in China and North Korea.
We met Patrick, a Bible College student, preparing to return to
his native Zambia, to preach the gospel and had prayer for the
nations in a Mongolian hut. Finally, the missionary “wildman”
told us why he was returning to Columbia, where he had served
for 30 years, in spite of warnings from the US government that
it was unsafe for any American to travel, much less live there.
He was going back because God's love compels him.
Next year, the National
Missionary Convention will be in Cincinnati. The theme will be
“His love compels us!” I hope you will be compelled to attend,
but be ready - because your life just might be changed forever!
