Mission Possible
by Elaine Duncan
|
On January 16th, the Missions Ministry began a new program,
designed to inform the congregation and enlist prayer support
for missions and missionaries around the world. Daniel Byrd,
Cross-cultural Evangelist, led a brief study on the Biblical
basis of missions. This was followed by a presentation of
“Beyond the Gates,” the story of five missionaries
killed in Ecuador in 1956. The documentary vividly portrays
the power of the Gospel to bring salvation and to transform
the lives of the tribe that killed the missionaries. It
is also a story of forgiveness that sets the stage for the
motion picture “End of the Spear,” now playing
in theatres.

We concluded with a time of
prayer, as small groups prayed for separate focal points:
(1) our congregation, its outreach, its vision, and its
blessings; (2) Daniel and Kristy Byrd and the people of
Mozambique; (3) The home missions and missionaries that
we support; and (4) The foreign missions and missionaries
that we support. A mission ministry member helped to focus
the groups’ thoughts on a particular prayer need,
allowed time for individual prayer, and then concluded
with prayer. It was a moving experience as the OCC body
came together to lift up both our congregation and our
missionaries.

On February 20th,
we will continue our study of the Biblical basis of missions,
followed by another special presentation, and continuing
prayer support for the Great Commission Christ has given
us. Join us as we move forward with “Mission Possible”.
