Promise
Keepers Review
by
Dan Sherrard:
This year,
my son, Ryan and my nephew, Greg accompanied me to the Promise
Keepers’ convention. It was such a blessing to have
them so close and experience the freedom of expression and overall
spiritual empowerment of so many gathered men. To be in
a group that size and unashamed to express themselves openly through
praise and worship was personally rewarding. Our OCC men
were just so open to doing the work of the kingdom (“tell
me where you need me”, “tell me what you want me to
do”, etc...) it was amazing! Thanks for the leadership,
the fellowship, and the intense close-knit relationships with
the OCC brothers in Christ.

This was my first PK, but it won’t be my last as long as
I am able to go. Praise God for the power that comes when 12,000
men come to worship at Freedom Hall.
It was amazing to experience it, and be around my OCC brothers
up close to the front. It was awesome to see hundreds of men come
forward and give their lives to the Lord. There are many positives—great
worship, great speakers, great fellowship before/during/after
BUT it’s reassuring to see the sameness of God and Christ.
The message of the gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit are
what made the event alive.
The highlights for me were being part of prayer for men who were
coming to Christ and/or laying their burdens at the cross. It
was so in alignment with God (Holy!) as I witnessed men lay down
all pride, be real and help each other or be helped during some
intense moments of conviction.
The strongest moment of inward focus came during an alter call,
where the minister on stage asked ‘those of you who know
where you are in Christ, please pray for these men’. It
humbled me to know where I am now, and to think how far I was
from that just a year or two ago. The PK weekend is an intensive
reminder of what I already know. I am made alive in Christ because
I am forgiven of the sins that I was dead in. I knew that in my
heart the day I came down at OCC, but now I can express it with
words.
It was beautiful to see others experience the same, some anew
and some rekindled. I was thankful to be part of an ‘alive’
group, with God’s will in mind.
