Tea & Traditions '06

by Tammy Sinex

No Christmas Carol lyrics can capture the essence of the Women's Ministries 3 rd Annual Tea & Traditions that took place this Friday, December 1 at 7 pm. Through the vision and planning of the Women's Ministry Team and the God-blessed talent and handiwork of Laura Thompson, the fellowship hall was transformed into an icy blue winter wonderland paradise. The tabletops were adorned with beautiful floral centerpieces, candelabras and various beautiful teacups and saucers that were donated by members of the church congregation. The stage was lined with fir trees dressed in white and blue lights. There were snowflakes flanking the ceiling. Not one detail was overlooked. The room was an intimate, cozy and inviting place of fellowship for women who came together to lift up the name of Jesus Christ this holiday season.

The program began with tea and desserts. The ladies proceeded through a buffet style arrangement with offerings of sweet and savory delictibles and a vast array of refreshments including teas, coffee and wassail. The best part of the experience, other than not having to cook or clean, was that the women were served by the men! That's right; clad in dress attire, ties and even a tuxedo, several men of the church, including our ministers, Aaron Brockett and John Parkey, stepped in to serve the women. How fun is that?

Next, the guest speaker, Sandy Maddox, spoke on “Home for the Holidays/Reason for the Season.” Sandy reminded us that just like a worthless flea market find; God picks us out and transforms us into something valuable. She also spoke on the importance of hospitality and opening up one's home during the holidays to provide the opportunity to witness to others for Christ.

The festivities were brought to an end by Phil White singing “O Holy Night” and Rodney Stultz accompanying him on the saxophone. Being in the room with the beautiful decorations, singing and music, reminded me of the “Reason for the Season,” Jesus Christ.

For those who were unable to attend the Tea & Traditions event, I would like to encourage you to attend next year's event. I plan to make the Tea & Traditions a part of my holiday tradition every year and hope that you will join me by bringing your family and friends. I promise - it will be a great night!
