"A
Mission Perspective"
By Aaron
Brockett, Outreach Minister
I can remember as a junior
in high school being afraid to pray this prayer: “Dear God,
wherever you lead, I'll follow.” I was fearful that he would
actually take me up on it! I could just envision Him sending me
to some obscure place like Tanzania or Zimbabwe to live in the
bush with a cannibalistic tribe. He ended up sending me to California
so I'm not sure what He was trying to say!
My suspicion is that your
perception of missions has, at one time or another, been similar
to the one I had as a junior in high school. And so we morph the
prayer to sound something more like this: “Dear God, wherever
you lead, I'll think it over.”

Looking back at the heritage
of OCC, we have had a strong presence in mission work all over
the globe. Nothing's changed, our passion and conviction to share
the gospel with people of every nation is just as strong as it
ever has been. However, in addition to sending our financial support
overseas, we'd also like to begin sending our people. Several
of our missionaries that we currently support would welcome teams
of people from our church on a short term trip ranging anywhere
from one to four weeks.
In 2008
we are planning on taking 12 of our people to Zambia , Africa
for a two week trip working in orphanages, churches, and poverty
stricken compounds. Every time I go overseas on a mission trip
I experience fear, anxiety, and nervousness, but God always deepens
my faith in significant ways. Every Christian needs the experience
of a short term mission trip at least once in their life. In the
future, we envision teams of people from our church being sent
out year round all over the globe on short term trips. If you
are interested, please contact me. I'd love to talk with you about
it!
