Embracing
Grace
by Laura Kemper

Last
Saturday, Nov 10, a group of OCC ladies headed down Preston Hwy.
to the Paroquet Springs Conference Center for the Embrace Grace
Women’s Event. Hosted by the Mt. Washington United
Methodist Church, the featured speaker was one of our favorite
authors and bible study teachers…..Liz Curtis Higgs.
We had three inspiring, fun-filled sessions with Liz and a wonderful
Italian buffet lunch. She had all of her “bad girls”
books for sale as well as children’s books, devotionals
and novels and Liz very graciously autographed those books and
chatted with the ladies between sessions and afterward.
As only Liz can, she had us laughing all day. But in the
middle of all the humor was the very serious message of embracing
grace. EMBRACE – to take or receive gladly or eagerly;
accept willingly. She pointed out that as Christians, especially
women, we sometimes get stuck in our feelings. We don’t
FEEL saved or we don’t FEEL we deserve God’s grace.
The beauty of it all is that it is not about us and our feelings.
It’s about God and the gift of His Son. If we’ve
accepted Christ as our Lord & Savior, HE GIVES us the gift
of grace each and every day. We don’t earn it and
we don’t deserve it but it is ours for the taking if we
just accept it.
I kind of look at it as the gift that keeps on giving.
Just try to wrap that up in a box and put it under your Christmas
tree.
