Mother
Daughter Tea '07
by Laura
Kemper

On
Saturday, May 12, the women of OCC celebrated those special women
in our lives, our mothers, with an afternoon of Tea & Treats.
Traditionally, our Christmas Tea is “adult” women only but on
this day women of all ages attended from the young, to the younger,
to the youngest. I've never seen a finer group of young
ladies who were so delightful in their pretty dresses and exhibiting
the finest of manners. They were all eyes and ears as we
learned about “Southern Charm” from our guest speaker Terry Masters
and there were lots of little fingers crossed as we called numbers
to receive one of the many small gifts.
We
dined on yummy mini-sandwiches, hors d'oeuvres and, of course,
sweets. The mango/peach tea was a particular favorite.
There were large and small family groups and to make it really
special group photos were taken to help remember this very special
occasion. It warmed your heart to see all the young ladies
with their mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, sisters,
aunts & cousins.
These
little ladies will become the future women's ministry at OCC.
Our challenge is to set good examples for them as good stewards
of our time, money and talents. As they see us involved
and volunteering for others they will learn first hand the importance
of that. You don't have to be a mother...as a woman in the
OCC family you have influence and input. Use it and pass
it on! Our younger ladies are already starting to do just
that.
When asked if we
could do anything differently for the next tea, it was overwhelmingly
suggested that we add peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the
menu. Hmmm…now why didn't we think of that!
