OCC
Blood Drive
By Kim Katzman
Thank you
to everyone who has given blood recently at Red Cross blood drives
hosted at OCC! Thanks to your individual caring, generosity, and
bravery, OCC has become a community leader in giving blood. For
the November blood drive, Okolona 's goal was to have 100 people
sign up to give. We were thrilled when 102 signed up! Even with
the few who ended up being unable to give, 92 pints of blood were
collected! To top off the excitement, we were very proud to learn
that Southeast Christian has never hosted a blood drive with a
turnout this large!
For the March blood drive,
OCC's goal was to have 120 people sign up and for the Red Cross
to be able to collect 100 pints of blood. With a week still to
go before the drive, 80 people had already signed up. The next
Sunday you stepped up in force with 68 more sign-ups, for a total
of 149 people planning to give! Knowing that we would have a large
turnout for this event, the Red Cross sent extra crew members
to handle the volume. On the day of the drive, 140 people actually
showed up with 100 giving whole blood and 17 giving “double-red.”
Congratulations to everyone who participated in this outstanding
event for OCC. You donated 134 pints of blood!
There
is one person at OCC who has donated much time over the past 25
years in coordinating and working at the blood drives. Ora McClain
deserves a huge debt of gratitude for her many years of dedication
to this cause! Due to recent health issues, Ora was unable to
help at the last drive, but we know she will be back for the next
campaign!
Mark your calendar! The
next Red Cross blood drive to be hosted by OCC will take place
on Monday, June 25.
