Senior
Class Retreat
By Jesse
DeYoung, High School Minister

On
August third and fourth, the high school ministry went on a retreat
to Brown County State Park . This trip was specifically
targeted towards high school seniors, and included seven students
and three adult sponsors: Matt & Emily Crouch, and Jesse DeYoung.
While
on the retreat, the group stayed at the Lodge in the middle of
the state park and used the premises for different activities.
Friday night the group grilled out in the middle of the park and
spent the night with some good conversation. We got up early
Saturday morning to go on a hike around the forest. At the
end of the hike rested an old fire tower, and the adventurers
of the group climbed up to the top of it. Afterwards, we
went into the middle of Historic Brown County for lunch, and then
spent the afternoon walking around the different shops.
At the end of the retreat we went and saw a movie.
Although
we had plenty of fun on the trip, the purpose of the trip wasn't
just to have a good time. This retreat is intentionally
placed at the beginning of the school year so that the older students
can be challenged to invest in the high school ministry for their
last year. Throughout the trip we talked about their goals
for the school year, their relationships with and responsibility
toward younger students, and their involvement in student ministry.
If the retreat is any indicator, this year looks to be one that
many students will remember for a long time.
