Prayer
for Sub-Saharan Africa
by
Elaine Duncan
“Therefore
go and make disciples of all nations …”
Matthew 28:19 NIV
Since the time that Paul and Barnabas made that first missionary
journey in the first century, Christians have gone out to tell
others about Christ. Yet, in the 21st century, there are still
6,400 unreached people groups in the world. Less than 2% of the
people within these ethnic groups have been evangelized, so there
is still much work to be done if we are to obey the Lord’s
command to “go”.
One missionary has said: “Prayer is the crucial strategy
for reaching the unreached!” As a result, the OCC Mission
Team has committed to praying for Sub-Sahara Africa for a period
of 120 days, beginning on July 22nd and continuing through the
end of the National Missionary Convention on November 18th. During
this commitment time, we will be asking the congregation to pray
for:
- Breakthroughs for the sake of the Gospel
- Laborers for the harvest fields
- Faithfulness of Christians who are being persecuted
- Resources and funding to send new missionaries
- Encouragement and effectiveness
- Missionaries currently working on that field to persevere
- God’s favor
- Open doors in the unreached strongholds
Prayer calendars are
available this morning in the lobby. We encourage you to be a
part of this commitment to prayer. We cannot all “go”,
but we can all be a part of fulfilling the Great Commission by
bringing our prayers and petitions to the Master’s throne.
