Thanksgiving
Dinners
by Cathy Grant
On
Saturday, November 17, 2007 we had our second annual Thanksgiving
Dinner deliveries. At 10:45 am, Bill prayed for our deliverers
and the families who would receive. We had over 50 delivery
teams. Our goal this year was 150 family dinners. We
started earlier this year in September, but it was a slow start.
Now that I look back on it I think that God was teaching me a
lesson in patience and trusting Him. I was worried about
numbers and not making the goal that I had set. I started
relying on prayer and faith. It wasn’t until I completely
let go and let God choose the number, and trust that the food
would come, that the amazing happened. The food bins seemed
to be filling up magically. As soon as we would empty them
out there would be more. We not only had plenty of food,
but also money to buy turkeys and names of families to give them
to. We ended up helping 170 families.
The boxes did not tape and fill themselves.....On Thursday, November
15, we had over 15 volunteers to stuff the boxes with Thanksgiving
goodies. An assembly line was made and we had people standing
at different food stations to put the food in the box as it got
to them. It was more like a party than work. We had
Christian rock playing in the back ground with a lot of singing,
laughing and fellowship. All to praise God! The boxes
where done in less than two hours.
I helped one lady who came to pick her dinner up with her neighbor
who also received a dinner. She had just had surgery.
She kissed and hugged me over and over and told me how much she
appreciated it and that she loved me. I invited her to our
church through tears, and she said she would come back.
I really think she meant it, as she was so grateful.
I want to THANK all the volunteers - those who donated food, money,
or their time. We really pulled together as the Body of
Christ. Praise Him for his wonderful work.
