Men's Retreat at White Mills Christian Camp
by Donnie Hughes
On February
22-23, a group of sixty-odd men (some more odd than others) embarked
on a retreat to White Mills Christian Camp. As promised in the
bulletin for the weeks leading up to the retreat, it was a great
opportunity to “worship together, pray together and hear
the Word of God spoken”.
Throw in some basketball, cornhole, hillbilly golf, and a little
full contact dodge ball and you’ve got yourself a weekend
to write about! And of course the only way to have enough energy
to complete all these activities is to enjoy three full course
meals in an eighteen hour time frame.
But by far, the real sustenance to be had during the retreat came
from time studying, praying and listening to the Word of God being
taught. In a company of like-minded men, the gospel and actions
of Jesus Christ were examined and we were encouraged to apply
them in our lives to glorify our Father.
The theme of the retreat was a “Strategy for Homeland Security”.
Against that backdrop, Jonathan Colbert and John Parkey led us
as we worshipped and studied themes of temptation, spiritual relationships
and being the salt of the earth.
As men, we possess innate power. We have been given the responsibility
to accurately use that power to lead by serving (1 Peter 4:10).
You don’t have to wait until the next men’s retreat
to experience what God has in mind for you. I encourage you to
contact the church office, or visit www.okolonacc.org/mensministry.html
for more information.
