Women's
Ministry Opry Mills Shopping Trip
by Laura Kemper
Last
Saturday, a bus full of OCC ladies, friends and family, headed
down I-65 for a fun filled day of shopping and fellowship.
And that we did! It was a perfect day…14 hours of talking,
eating, shopping and Ed (our bus driver) to worry about the driving,
parking and getting gas. It's the only way to shop!
But
the best part of the day for me was the special little gift God
gave me off Exit 22, the place where my story intersected
with HIS-story. On the way to Nashville we stopped at a
McDonalds at this location. I ordered a soft drink and as
I was filling my cup I could hear someone singing. Not loud,
to call attention to themselves, but very softly. It was
“Amazing Grace”. I turned around to see and there she was.
A sweet little lady in a McDonald's uniform sweeping the floor
and just singing away with a big ole smile on her face! I
thought - how nice! I sat down and soon she walked up to
me seeing that I only had a soft drink and asked if I needed anything
else. I said “no thank you, I'm just waiting for my friends”.
She walked over to me, gave me a big hug and said “God bless you”.
That really got my attention
so I started watching her. She was so gracious and kind
to everyone. She would sweep, wipe tables, bring customers
cups of water, take people's trays for them and thank them for
coming. She was constantly asking everyone if there was
anything she could get for them. She even brought one of
our ladies a cup of coffee and wouldn't take any money for it.
Now remember, we were in a McDonalds. A place where no one
expects this kind of service.
I
was so moved by her spirit of joy and her servant heart.
I started thinking about the message we've been hearing the last
couple of Sundays - how we don't have to be a Bible scholar
or motivational speaker to share our stories of Christ in our
lives. I don't even know her name and she never said a word
about Christ - but she didn't have to. I could see Him.
