Tea
Honors Those Touched by Cancer
by Celia
Emberts
Ladies,
you walk into the room—the tables are set with linen table cloths,
delicate cups and saucers, tiered trays with an array of tasty
treats, scones and Dovenshire cream, china tea pots full of fragrant
smelling teas and soft music in the background. You are escorted
to your table; a server arrives to pour you a cup of tea and tells
you how happy she is you've arrived.
WOW,
what a dream! It isn't a dream for some very special ladies at
OCC, they just arrived at a Sterling Service Tea.
Most
of us, especially the women, at OCC know about the Christmas Tea
and Traditions and the Mother/Daughter Tea, but there is another
more important Tea, the Sterling Service Tea. This
is an outreach of the Women's Ministry for women who have been
touched by cancer, whether it is themselves or a loved one, a
member of OCC or a friend of a friend. This ministry is a time
for these ladies to be pampered, waited on, and nurtured, and
a place for them to just sit and feel the love of their fellow
sisters in Christ. The Sterling Service Tea Ministry also offers
a place to come and connect with women who are on the same journey
or have been there and can offer encouragement. OCC has been offering
this Ministry since 2005. The event is held twice a year, in March
and September, as a retreat to these wonderful ladies.
Another
part of this ministry is the great opportunity to serve these
ladies. As women, we are caregivers, and for the ministry team,
it is so fulfilling to care for these ladies whom we love. To
see our guests laughing, talking, and relaxing, even if it is
only for an hour, is a wonderful site. It is really difficult
to know who enjoys the day more the guests or the servers. As
the Bible teaches, we are to both serve and be served. This Ministry
is certainly an example of that. Please come join us.
The next Sterling Service Tea is coming up March 1. If you or someone
you know is interested in attending the next event
or serving in any capacity, please look for the
sign-up list at the Women's Ministry Desk . Because
of space, this ministry is by reservation only.
