Arizona Mission Trip
by Allison Doan
On June 15 a group of 15 juniors and seniors and 8 adults met
at the old location to prepare for a 10-day mission trip to the
Navajo reservation in Arizona. Many of us were new to this experience
so we had a lot of surprises ahead of us.
Each morning after breakfast we had a devotion led by either a
student or sponsor, then met up and planned out the day, divided
into groups and started working. Some of the jobs that we did
were pulling weeds, painting, chopping and stacking wood, and
cleaning out the garage. The main project was building an office
space addition and our job was to build the inside and outside
walls and put them up.
We also did a lot of things for the Navajo people. On Sunday we
had the opportunity to help
with the church service at Red Sands Christian Church. We held
a VBS for the kids Monday-Thursday where we played games, made
crafts, had skits, songs, and a short lesson. We had the chance
to reach out to the kids and show them the love that God has for
them. We were also able to go out onto the streets and hand out
sandwiches and bottles of water to homeless people. We also had
the opportunity to witness to some of them. Some of us gave our
Bibles to them, prayed with them, shared our stories and listened
to theirs.
We even got to do some sight seeing. It was absolutely beautiful
out there. Every night we sat down as a group and had a short
devotion, a time of worship, and shared with the group words of
encouragement and things we had experienced that day.
Overall it was an awesome trip. It was so amazing to be able to
share God's word with the Navajo people and be in God's wonderful
creation all at once!
