Girl's
Retreat
by Elizabeth Wooldridge
Every girl needs a time to get away
from everyday life and have a little girl time. Well, that is
exactly what the Girl’s Retreat is to the girls in our youth
group. This retreat is one that I personally look forward to every
year. And this year was no different.
The weekend started out right, with two limos arriving at church
to escort all the girls to their getaway. After a ride fit for
a princess, we arrived at a cozy camp in Indiana. We were finally
away from all the noisiness and business of everyday life. Like
always, our wonderful sponsors had the room decorated to make
us feel at home. Our theme for the weekend was “Mirror Image”
so hanging all around the room were mirrors with every girl’s
name on them.
We were introduced to our special guest Brittany Waggoner, who
was the speaker for the weekend, then we were off to dinner! The
rest of the night we ate (of course), and played our annual game
of Bunco. (Bunco can get very intense with a group of teenage
girls, by the way!) We stayed up to the wee hours of the night
just asking questions and getting to know each other. (Now we
know everyone’s secrets!)
The next day was filled with lessons and activities to bring us
closer to God. My personal favorite was part of the prayer walk,
when we received letters of encouragement. Our speaker, Brittany,
did a wonderful job of teaching us the importance of self worth
and trust in God.
This is one weekend I will never forget! And remember, girls:
without a positive self-image, we cannot obey God!
