Instrumental Praise V
by John Teensma

What
a wonderful evening! On Wednesday, March 2, 2005, OCC presented
the Fifth Annual Instrumental Praise Program featuring the OCC
Worship Orchestra and the OCC Praise Band under the leadership
of Jonathan Colbert as well as the Bullitt Central High School
Band under the direction of Rodney Stults. Space does not permit
an adequate description of the entire program, but it was superb
in every way. One of the highlights of the evening certainly was
the Bullitt Central Band's presentation of “Masters of the Silent
Screen”. This piece coordinated music with several old-time silent
movie clips shown on our giant screens. The timing was critical
and went off without a hitch.
If you
remember singing “Kum Ba Ya” at church camp outings, the Caribbean
version with synthesized steel drums, as presented by the OCC
Praise Band, not only brought back great memories, but made you
wish you were on a nice winter vacation -- perhaps in Jamaica.
“American
Celebration” performed by the OCC Worship Orchestra brought together
a medley of patriotic pieces.
Stacey
Harvey thrilled everyone with her tenor saxophone solo called
simply “Aria”. There was nothing simple about her performance
-- it was superb! It is easy to see why this talented young lady
has been offered a full scholarship based on her musical talent.
The program concluded with the combined bands and the orchestra
playing “This is my Father's World”.
This fifth presentation of instrumental praise
was definitely enhanced by the large stage and excellent audio-visual
equipment now available in our new auditorium. It was truly a blessing
to see and hear these young men and women showcase their talents.
If you were not in the audience, make sure you don't miss Instrumental
Praise VI next year!
