Potluck
and Potpourri
by Jaime Goldsmith
On April 18th
the ladies of OCC gathered once again for another “ladies
only” event. This time the ladies had an evening of Potluck
and Potpourri. The evening began with mingling and social time,
but there was an objective – to find the person who had
visited the farthest location. It was discovered that we have
some world travelers among us at OCC. Shirleen Geiger has visited
Japan which was the farthest away. After our mingling, discussing
our travels, and prayer, the potluck began. The tables were covered
with many homemade appetizers, salads, casseroles, and desserts.
The food was delicious and many returned for seconds. Many ladies
enjoyed the dishes so much they exchanged recipes.
Eating is always fun, but the real fun began when the time arrived
for the potpourri. Janet
Teensma gave an introduction and explanation for potpourri, when
we learned that “potpourri” is a French word that
means “rotten pot”! Potpourri is actually a mixture
of flowers, herbs, & spices that is kept in a container and
used for scent. After Janet educated us on the pretty, good smelling
stuff that we decorate our homes with, we were able to make some
beautiful decorations to adorn the ladies restrooms throughout
the building. Janet instructed us on how to make “potpourri
vases” and also “potpourri sachets”, which we
were able to take home and
use to decorate our own restrooms or lingerie drawers. So take
the time to notice and perhaps smell the “rotten pots”
as you visit the ladies room here at church.
The food and potpourri crafts were all fun, but the real enjoyment
always comes through fellowshiping with other sisters in Christ.
Whether you are a new member or an “oldie”, we hope
that you will join us for our next ladies event. The goal of all
our activities is to build relationships and strength among the
beautiful ladies both young and old here at OCC.
