Reflections of Christmas 2004
by Jonathan Colbert
As I look back at Christmas 04 here
at OCC my thoughts begin with the Tea and Tradition’s banquet
that the Women’s Ministry held. Three other “young
men” and myself were the musical entertainment for the night.
Being a part of that evening really helped me get into the Christmas
spirit. Singing in front of 150 women was a bit intimidating but
I think they really enjoyed us. It must have been the Santa hats.
Anyway, the Sunday before Christmas was a wonderful morning. I
was so proud of our gifted instrumentalists and singers who led
us through a great morning. For me the highlight was Phil singing
the song, Joy, Joy. This was a song that helped paint a picture
of what it must have been like in heaven as Jesus obeyed the will
of His Father and left his throne in heaven to bring Joy to the
earth and redeem us from our sin. I wish everyone could experience
what I do every week as I stand between the worship team and you,
the congregation, and am literally surrounded with the sounds
of worship. December 19 was particularly awesome in that regard.
Of course, not being able to meet for services on Christmas Eve
was disappointing but still did not change the reality of what
was about to occur; the birthday of a King!
Finally, without a doubt the best part of Christmas 04 was spending
time Kristi, Madison, and Brayden and the wonderful family God
has blessed me with.
Happy New Year!
