Smoky Mountain Women's Retreat
by Teri Carlton
On
May 20th and 21st, several ladies from OCC spent 2 days at Johnson
Bible College participating in a womens retreat. The retreat was
titled "You Will Be Like a Well-Watered Garden." It
was designed to reach and encourage women of all ages in dealing
with different aspects of everyday living.
A couple of the workshops offered were: "Watering Your Sister's
Garden" and "Watering with An Empty Can." "Watering
Your Sister's Garden" was led by our own Elaine Duncan and
dealt with encouraging our sisters in Christ. "Watering with
an Empty Can" addressed defining and diagnosing depression.
There were a total of 19 workshops and opportunities to choose
and attend 4. There was also a Christian Warehouse Bookstore operating
on campus, campus tours, and a jewelry and book swap.
On Friday evening, the main event was a concert by "Soul
Real". "Soul Real" is a contemporary Christian
trio from Southeast Christian Church which travels the US sharing
their faith and gifts of song. Since forming in 1999, "Soul
Real" has been asked to sing all over the country and has
traveled as far as Seoul, Korea.
The message for the evening was given by Rhoda Jo Conner of "Soul
Real". She feels a powerful desire to share her personal
journey and faith with others as a speaker and song writer. She
is married to former Kentucky basketball star, Jimmy Dan Conner,
and has 2 children.
It was a great evening of music and worship and ended with an
ice cream social. We all know how OCC people like to eat, so the
evening ended on a great note.
After a wonderful breakfast on Saturday, there was an opportunity
to attend another workshop followed by another tremendous worship
service. "Soul Real" presented more great music and
Rhoda Jo Conner finished up with more of her powerful testimony.
After time for one more workshop, the retreat ended with a great
lunch.
We really had a terrific time and some of us have decided on spending
an extra night in Gatlinburg next year. So plan for a great time
of fellowship and fun with us next year on the 3rd weekend in
May at the Smoky Mountain Women's Retreat
