State of the Body
by Doris Ray
"When was the last
time all the children were in OCC’s service with the adults?”
was asked Sunday evening, February 27, as the auditorium filled
up with all ages.
On stage, each group was introduced with a video, followed by
a live performance. Wee Celebrate “Got the Wiggles Out of
Me”, complete with puppets and the entire congregation.
Kids Celebrate 1st through 5th grades, choreographed “One
Way Jesus”.
Bill Geiger described “riding the wave” that “only
God can make”. Then all “buckled up” for the
Middle and High School presentation, “There’s No One
Like You, Jesus”. A communion celebration with families
was followed by “What Can Wash Away Our Sins?”
Andy Keith detailed OCC’s current financial situation, missions
and plans for the Manslick Road property. Will it be FTF for life?
There would be “no need for FTF” if everyone tithed
as their # 1 priority.
Don Finch gave a construction update with anticipated parking
and signs needed as well as unforeseen problems. Dave McFarland
was recognized for his “24/7” effort and Jim Riggs
for his great commitment in the parking ministry.
Plaques of appreciation were presented to Andy and Don for their
tireless work in acquiring the new facility. A five-minute standing
ovation followed.
Adult worship was represented by a worship team singing “The
Lord’s Prayer”. Next Jonathan Colbert described the
ABF electives.
The elders’ goals were outlined by John Parkerson to include
maturity for the church body and expansion of the staff.
Chapel services were introduced by Mike Perkins. “Momma”
Heloise Neat, pianist, and Ken Neat, song leader, directed “At
Calvary” (voted OCC’s favorite in the past).
Jeff Johnston discussed lessons learned in the move mentioning
our Big God, our Big Job, Satan’s Big Guns, and Christians’
Big Challenge.
While the congregation held hands (even across the aisles), we
were led in prayer by Jeff Imlay and Wally Smith.
After the Production staff and crew were thanked, everyone sang
“A Song for Every Age”. A reception followed.
Grateful applause broke out often during the program, but the
greatest thanks belongs to Jesus Christ, without whom none of
this would have been possible.
