How Do I Become a Christian?
Sin

  • Romans 3:23 -"For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."
  • Romans 5:12 -"therefore just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, for all sinned."
  • Romans 6:23 -"the wages of sin is death."
    • Because we are human, we can't help but sin; and when we do sin, we receive the eternal punishment of death.

God's Grace
Grace is defined as God's help when we don't really deserve it.

  • John 3:16 -"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life."
  • Colossians 1:19-20 -"For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him(Jesus), and through Him (Jesus) to reconcile to Himself all things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross."
  • Ephesians 2:8 -"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God."

Mankind's Response of Faith

  • Believe in Jesus Christ
John 3:16 -"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life."

  • Repent of sins
Acts 3:19 -"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord."
Luke 13:3 -"unless you repent, you too will perish."

Repent means to change your mind, to turn around; turn from a life of sin to a life that pleases Christ.

  • Confess
Romans 10:9 -"That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord', and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
Matthew 16:15-16 -"'But what about you,' he asked. 'Who do you say I am?.' Simon Peter answered, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.'"

Publicly telling something you believe proves your sincerity and genuineness.

  • Be baptized.
Acts 2:38 -"Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'"
Mark 16:16 -"Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned."
Romans 6:3-4 -"Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death. We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."

  • Live a godly lifestyle
Mark 13:13 -"All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved."
Colossians 1:22-23a -"But now He has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight without blemish and free from accusation -if you continue in the faith established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel."
