In I Corinthians 12:27, the apostle Paul told the believers in
Corinth that they were "the body of Christ." When one accepts
Jesus as Lord and Savior they then naturally are a part of the
church in general. Because of that, at Okolona Christian Church,
we encourage people to become members of the local congregation.
The Process
There are basically two ways to become a member of OCC. The first
is to be baptized by immersion at OCC. This is the point at which
a person becomes a Christian, and when one does so at Okolona
they automatically become a member. Baptisms can either be during
a public church service or a privately arranged ceremony.
The second means of
become a member is for people who have already been baptized by
immersion. Those individuals do not need to be re-baptized in
our church. They simply transfer, or place, their church membership
in OCC. This normally takes place at the conclusion of one of
our worship services when people are invited to make spiritual
decisions.
Our Expectations
Once an individual becomes a member of OCC they are then encouraged
to work toward the fulfillment of ten expectations. These expectations
are built around our five strategies of ministry. They are as
follows:
Strategy #1 - Surrender
Develop a lifestyle of worship through corporate services and
private devotional time.
Faithfully return the tithe to God as an act of humble worship.
Strategy #2 - Search
Purposely build relationships with unchurched people.
Regularly invite unchurched people to church services and activities.
Strategy #3 - Serve
Recognize and continually develop your God-given identity.
Serve in a recognized ministry of the church.
Strategy #4 - Study
Pursue Christian educational opportunities through the local
church.
Develop a habit of personal study through the use of Christian
literature.
Strategy #5 - Support
Be actively involved in a small group community.
Demonstrate an attitude of unity and harmony within the church.
