When my kids were little, they loved to wear costumes and put on masks and pretend to be someone (or something) else. It wasn’t just at Halloween or costume parties. It was nearly every day. As adults, many of us still play make-believe, but without the innocence and joy of childhood. Most of us fear that if others know the real me, then they won’t accept me. So, we pretend to be someone we’re not – a better, or stronger, or kinder, or more acceptable version of ourselves. All the while we mask our pain, our fears, our anger, our insecurities, our imperfections. But Jesus invites us to remove the mask and find our true identity in Him.
