What He Said

Did you have a favorite teacher? Maybe it was a grade school teacher who made going to school enjoyable. Or perhaps your favorite was a high school teacher who ignited your passion for a particular subject. Or was it a college professor who helped you believe in yourself as much as she believed in you? The best teachers I had, had a way of engaging everyone. They said things in a way that we all could understand. And when they spoke, we all listened. They communicated the importance of what they were talking about in a way that caused us all to lean in and listen up. It wasn’t just abstract concepts. It was relevant information to help us live better, fuller lives. What probably made the most difference, though, is that those teachers really seemed to care. And their care was not just about the subject matter, but about their students as well. They were truly there to help us. That’s how Jesus taught, too. That’s why large crowds came to hear Him when He taught. He wasn’t just lecturing on abstract concepts. He was offering divine wisdom for daily living. Jesus demonstrated at the cross that He has our best in mind. His preaching was no different. He had our best in mind when He taught the crowds. His teaching was a course correction, steering us away from destructive patterns and toward the abundant life He created us to enjoy. And the remarkable thing about the teachings of Jesus is that they are as relevant today as they were when He spoke to them nearly 2000 years ago. So, in our next series we invite you to lean in and listen up to What He Said.
