Light is beautiful. Just think of the brilliance of stars in a sky or colors separating through a prism. Light is powerful. When concentrated it can burn, like when I set the school yard on fire with a magnifying glass. Light is mysterious. It has properties of both particle and wave. The Bible is filled with the imagery of light, from the first page to the last. And the Bible reveals to us that God is light. Those who follow Jesus are called to live in the light, shining brightly for others to see — an illumination of hope amidst the dark backdrop of this world.
