Fasting and Prayer

Make Room for God

In Daniel 1:8, we read, "Daniel resolved not to defile himself..."

Daniel made a deliberate decision to honor God, even when it required sacrifice.

What might be distracting you from God today?

What would happen if you intentionally set aside 10–21 days to seek Him through prayer and fasting?

  • How might God speak to you if you created more room for Him?
  • What healing or freedom could you experience?
  • How could your relationship with Jesus grow?
  • What might God want to reveal to you during this season?

Biblical fasting isn't about earning God's favor—it's about creating space to experience His presence. By temporarily setting aside things that distract, consume, or even control us, we become more attentive to His voice and more dependent on His strength.

You're invited to join us for prayer every Wednesday, August 5–19, from 9:00 AM–9:00 PM.
The Lobby and Auditorium will be open throughout the day for anyone who wants to spend time in prayer.

Two ways to fast

Food Fast

A food fast involves giving up certain foods—or, in some cases, meals—for a specific period of time. Throughout Scripture, God's people often fasted from food as they sought His guidance, repented, or drew closer to Him.

One popular option is the Daniel Fast, based on Daniel's example in Scripture.

Soul Fast

A soul fast focuses on removing activities or habits that compete for your attention and affection.

In today's world, many of us fill our lives with constant noise, entertainment, and digital distractions. Stepping away from things like social media, streaming services, gaming, or other time-consuming habits can help create intentional space to hear from God.

Preparing for Your Fast

As you begin your journey, consider these practical steps:

  • Seek God first. Ask Him what He is inviting you to fast and what He wants to accomplish in your heart.
  • Set a goal. What are you praying for or hoping to experience during this time?
  • Choose your dates. Decide on a clear start and end date for your fast.
  • Prepare your heart. Spend time in prayer before your fast begins, asking God to strengthen and guide you.
  • Prepare practically. If you're doing a food fast, plan meals, grocery shopping, and your schedule ahead of time to reduce unnecessary distractions.
  • Invite accountability. Share your plan with a trusted friend or family member who can encourage you and pray with you.
  • Pray daily. Spend intentional time with God each morning, throughout the day, and each evening. Ask for wisdom, strength, and a heart that is fully surrendered to Him.

Remember the Purpose

The goal of fasting is not simply to give something up—it's to draw closer to Jesus. As you pray and fast, trust that God will meet you, transform you, and deepen your faith as you intentionally make room for Him.
